Full Overview
In the evolving landscape of clinical trials, leveraging new technologies can enhance the patient experience, but their effectiveness varies with each patient’s demographic and disease context. A digital, patient-centric approach underpins this evolution, focusing not on the technology itself, but on patient centricity and scientific advancement, facilitated by better access to data and supportive technologies. This transitions the relationship between clinical trial teams and patients from a single-study transaction to a more dynamic and comprehensive model that encompasses all relevant clinical research and healthcare interactions. Moreover, technologies like electronic clinical outcome assessments (eCOA), sensors, and imaging help gather a wider array of data thus creating a broader data ecosystem which provides deeper insights across multiple trials and patient interactions.
Clinical trial teams face significant patient retention and engagement challenges, often stemming from insufficient attention to patient convenience and the emotional burdens associated with participation. In addressing the complex challenges faced by clinical trial teams, several strategies are currently being explored such as implementing decentralised clinical trials, leveraging AI to optimise trial design and developing integrated digital platforms to enhance data interoperability and collaboration. While these strategies are promising, they are part of the larger and ongoing effort to adapt technology, processes and skillsets to support a more comprehensive and longitudinal approach to patient care.
This webinar, hosted by the Financial Times and Medidata, examined how clinical research is evolving and how the adoption of new technologies is reshaping patient, site, CRO and sponsor experiences in clinical trials. It also discussed bridging the gap between healthcare provision and clinical research, as well as the strategies needed to enhance patient engagement.
